John Leroy "Lee" Burklund was born on February 1, 1931, in Austin, Texas and passed away on May 3, 2016, at Hospice Austin Christopher House with his family at his bedside.

Lee was a hard worker with over 30 years of service with Coca-Cola. For the past 26 years he has lived with his sisters Elvera, where he enjoyed doing yard work for her and other family members.
In addition to loving his entire family, he was a constant companion to his sister Elvera. His family fondly remembers the joy he experienced going to the races every Friday night at Speed-O-Roma. Each Saturday you would find him at Stelfox Wrecker Service going on calls to pick up damaged vehicles.
Lee spent many hours supporting school children playing sports, encouraging and teaching them to learn team work early in their lives. Every Sunday the family shared dinner at Grandma Burklund's where Lee enjoyed visiting with his nieces and nephews. You always found a smile on Lee's face when they came to visit.
Lee spent his last few weeks under the care of Hospice Austin. We thank his nurse Michele Guillot, Chaplain Miranda Fontaine and the staff of Christopher House for easing his pain the last few weeks and assisting the family in coping with losing him.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Signe Burklund and his brothers; Elvin ("Shorty") and Edward ("Swede") Burklund.
Lee is survived by his sisters; Elvera Meredith and Margie Calhoun; along with numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Thanks to family and friends for their prayers and thanks to nieces Pat and Sandy for taking Lee to doctor's appointments and always being there for him.
Lee's visitation will be held with a funeral service to follow at the Mausoleum Chapel of Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include: Wayne Burklund, Terry Burklund, Troy Burklund, Mark Burklund and Rory Calhoun. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen O'Quinn and Gilbert Rodriguez.
