John Clement Vogt was the youngest son of Nicholas Vogt and Katherine Deller Vogt.
He was born in Lockport township, Will County, Illinois where his family ran a small farm. They all moved to Wibaux, Dawson County, Montana around 1909, where they continued to farm.
John married Charlotte Bott on 14 February 1917. He and his father owned some land in the Suburban Homes addition of Billings in the 1920s, which appears to have been an investment.
He and Charlotte were living in Coeur D'alene by 1927 where they ran a confectionary at first and later the Green Lantern Fountain & Lunch. Later he worked a painter for Bob's Paint Shop and they lived at 1029 N 4th
