Marie was the youngest child of Nicholas Vogt and Katherine Deller Vogt. She spent her early years near Lockport, Will County, Illinois where her father ran a farm. Around 1909 her family moved to Wibaux, Dawson County, Montana where they farmed. She went to college in Bozeman and stayed on there for the rest of her life. She worked as a clerk at Fisher's Department Store and at Margaret Langhor Florists. She also worked in automobile sales and as a bookkeeper. By 1940 she had purchased the home she would remain in at 702 S 6th Street. She loved Bozeman and its surrounding countryside and was glad to show it to visitors.
