Ruth Culberson was born September 3, 1910 in Oklahoma, daughter of James Culberson (1870-1943) and Martha Virginia Harris (1872-1951). Ruth's paternal grandfather was Tusha (John Culbertson), a full-blood Choctaw, who with his mother and father, were forcibly marched from Mississippi to Indian Territory.

The 1920 Federal Census for Durant Ward 3, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Ruth Culberson, age 9, born in Oklahoma; living with her father, James Culberson, a farmer, age 47, born in Oklahoma; and her mother, Martha, age 47, born in Arkansas. Also living in the household were Ruth's siblings: James Culberson Jr., age 18, born in Oklahoma; Mary Culberson, age 15, born in Arkansas; and John Culberson, age 11, born in Oklahoma.

The 1930 Federal Census for Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Ruth Culberson, a public school teacher, age 19, born in Oklahoma; living with her father, James Culberson, a farmer, age 57, born in Oklahoma; and her mother, Martha, age 55, born in Arkansas.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, at 9 a.m. at the County Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Lone Grove for Ruth Culberson Robertson, 85, who died Wednesday, March 13, 1996. The Reverend Wayne Howard will officiate.

She was born September 3, 1910 to James and Martha V. (Harris) Culbertson. She married Leland Robertson on May 29, 1971, in Covington, Tennessee.

Mrs. Robertson had been an Ardmore resident since 1973. She came to Ardmore from Holbrook, Arizona where she was a retired schoolteacher. She began her career teaching art to Navajo children in Kayenta, Arizona. She was a member of the First Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 22, 1994. She is survived by two nieces, Beverly Bringle of Concord, Massachusetts, and Helen Johnson of Liverpool, New York; and two nephews, Walter Bringle of Rockport, Texas, and James Culbertson of Asheboro, North Carolina.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Green, Darren Howard, Darryl Howard, John Meek, Johnnie Payne and Eugene Perkins.
