John Culberson was born December 13, 1908 in Oklahoma, son of James Culberson (1870-1943) and Martha Virginia Harris (1872-1951). John was a native-American Indian as was his father and his siblings.

The 1920 Federal Census for Durant Ward 3, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows John Culberson, age 11, born in Oklahoma; living with his father, James Culberson, a farmer, age 49, born in Oklahoma; and his mother, Martha, age 47, born in Arkansas. Also living in the household were John's siblings: James Culberson Jr., age 18; Mary Culberson, age 15; and Ruth Culberson, age 9; all born in Oklahoma.

The 1930 Federal Census for Wister, Oklahoma (LeFlore County) shows John Culberson, age 21, born in Oklahoma, working as a bank bookkeeper. He was single and living in a boarding house.

John died May 13, 1939 in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) and was buried there in the Highland Cemetery.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. for John Culberson, age 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Culberson, from the family residence at 710 N. 8th Avenue. John was born December 13, 1908 and was employed as a bookkeeper. He passed away Thursday, May 19.

Reverend W. N. Sholl, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, of which the deceased had been a member for a number of years, conducted the service. He was assisted by Reverend Forrest Dudley, pastor of the First Methodist Church. Interment was in Highland Cemetery.
