Funeral services for Doshie Mae (Kay) Holmes, 93, West Plains, Missouri, formerly of Caulfield, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee, will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 8, 2011 in the Rose Chapel of the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home in West Plains, Missouri; Reverend Marion Cornett will officiate and music by David Ball.
Mrs. Holmes entered into eternal rest at her home at 6:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2011. She was born in Senath, Missouri to Marion N. and Minnie Hahn Killian on March 1, 1918.
After graduating from Senath High School in 1936, she worked as a beauty operator and telephone operator. In 1940 she met her partner for life, Charles Edward Holmes and they were married in Memphis Tennessee December 30, 1944, upon his return from World War II.
In Memphis, she was a very active and dedicated member and Sunday School teacher at Beverly Hills Baptist Church. After retiring from Sears in 1978, they moved to Caulfield, Missouri where she continued that dedication to the Lord at the First Baptist Church of Bakersfield. In 2000, they moved to West Plains and later transferred their membership to First Baptist Church of West Plains.
While her passions were painting and reading, with her desire, discipline, determination and dedication, she endured breast cancer, macular degeneration, hearing loss and eventually Alzheimer's, always with humility and grace. Her faith in God and her unconditional love for her husband and family will long be remembered.
Mrs. Holmes is survived by her daughter, Judy Wagner, husband, Forrest and her son, Charles E.(Chuck) Holmes, wife, Cherie, all of West Plains; grandchildren, Heather Foster, husband, Jeff, Nolensville, Tennessee, Amren Fowler, husband, Tim, Berea, Ohio, John Holmes, West Plains and Bob Holmes, wife, Caty, West Plains; two great-grandchildren, MayceKay Fowler, Berea, Ohio and Gavyn Holmes, West Plains; her brother, Hubert Killian, wife, Modean, St. Peters, Missouri and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents,her husband,Charles, four sisters, Grace Abernathy, Mettie Penzel, Annie Killian and Polly Emmons and six brothers, Willie Killian, Paul Killian,Niel Killian, Carl Killian, Nathanial Killian and Floyd Joseph Killian.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 7th at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery following the funeral serivces. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice Compassus of West Plains and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
