Dies At Age 94
A retired merchant and
realtor for many years, Mrs.
Valeria Grantham Southern, 94,
of 37th 8th St., N.W. died Monday
afternoon in Pulaski General
hospital.
Born in Pulaski County Sept.
26,1878, she was the daughter of
the late-James William Grantham
and Charity Lucinda(Hurst)
Grantham and she Was preceded
in death by her husband, Floyd
Allen Southern.
Mrs. Southern was a merchant
in Pulaski for about 20 years and
operated a Ladies ready-to-wear
- and Millinery Shop and after
retiring she entered the real estate
business. She was an
active member of the First
United Methodist Church, the
Pulaski Woman's Club and -the
Pulaski Garden Club.
Surviving are one son, Turus
F. Southern and one. daughter,
Mrs. Leta J. Gilmer, both of
Pulaski. Also, two granddaughters
and six great grand-
children.
The funeral will be held at 3
p.m. Wednesday from Thomas
M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home
with Dr. Robert H. Duncan officiating.
Burial will follow in
Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends
at the funeral home from 7-9
p.m.
Active pallbearers will include
Joe B. Shumate Sr., H.W.
Huff Jr., Harold Snuff, George
Hillsman, the Rev. R.B. Watts,
Kenneth Williams and Duval Seagle
