Gertrude Salisbury Hiott, of Walterboro, widow of Joel M. Hiott, passed peacefully from this world, surrounded by her family, to be reunited with Joe on the evening of October 26, 2011, after a brief illness.

Born June 7, 1912, in Ruffin, she was a daughter of the late Isaac C. Salisbury and Minnie Bennett Salisbury.

Mrs. Hiott was a retired cafeteria server for the Colleton County School District and was a former seamstress.

She was a member of Doctor's Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member of the King's Daughters Sunday School Class, Women's Missionary Union. Gertrude was also a Sunday School Teacher for many years and worked with the Junior Training Union Department for 12 years. At the time of her passing, Gertrude was the oldest living member of her church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 147 and was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving are: her children, Joel D. Hiott and wife Brenda of Harrisburg, NC, William F. Hiott, Sr. of Walterboro and Sammy Hiott and wife Barbara of Ravenel; a special caregiver, Sherry Hawk; 12 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Beverly Hiott Myers.

Funeral services will be held, October 30, 2011, at 3PM, at Doctor's Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
