Josephine Beckner, 68, of Hiawatha, KS, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. She had been in failing health the last seven months.
She was born Nov. 30, 1928, in Rulo, the daughter of Marion Morehead Sr. and Elizabeth Pettinger Morehead. She graduated from Rulo High School.
She married Donald Jean Overfield on April 15, 1952, at Rulo. He died July 31, 1964. She married Ray Beckner on Aug. 30, 1969, at Hiawatha. They were later divorced. Mrs. Beckner lived in the Rulo, Falls City and Hiawatha areas all her life.
She was employed by Flair Fold.
Mrs. Beckner was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rulo.
She is survived by four sons, Dale Overfield, Martell, David Overfield, Sycamore, IL, Duane Overfield, Topeka, KS and Keith Overfield, Auburn, two daughters, Rose Lydick, Independence, MO and Linda (Mrs. Jim) Garrett, Hiawatha, three sisters, Mary Morehead, Rulo, Sister Laurita Morehead, Clinton, IA and Martha Diehn, Omaha, five brothers, Leo Morehead, Greeley, CO, Wilson Morehead, Manhattan, KS, Joseph Morehead, Kansas City, KS, Marion Morehead and Elmer Morehead, both of Rulo, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard, and two brothers, Lloyd and Edward Morehead.
Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rulo. Father James Meysenburg will officiate. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Rulo.
The family will receive friends at the Clark Funeral Home from 7-8 o'clock this evening.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Luoma, Hiawatha, KS, Gary Overfield, Fremont, Jerry Morehead, Manhattan, KS, Ed Diehn, Omaha, Murvyn Morehead, Gardner, KS and Bob Morehead, Rulo.
