Josephine was a daughter of John and Eliza Dennis Gordon. She married Frederick Norton Berkey in 1854. Frederick was in the dry goods business and continued in that line of work until his death in 1917.

The 1900 US Census lists Josephine living with her husband Fred in Salem, Washington County, Indiana, having been married 46 years.

Frederick and Josephine became the parents of William, Ella, Edwin, Fred, Robert, Mary, Roscoe, and Ethel.

In our family tree, Josephine is my husband's maternal Great(2)Grand-Aunt.
