Helen I. Ellison, 1316 N. Wheeling Ave., died Friday evening in Ball Memorial Hospital following a short illness. She was born in Warren and attended school there.She came to Muncie to attend Ball State University in 1929. She was the widow of Ward V. Ellison, who died in 1982.

Mrs. Ellison was a member of High Street Methodist Church Christian Singles Fellowship and Business and Professional Women of Muncie. She was president of the National Contesting Association for several years and had held other offices.

Some years ago Mrs. Ellison appeared on THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW to accept an automobile she had won through a national contest. She was the author of several short stories that had earned her the title "Hoosier Helen."

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, James B. and Norma Ellison, Losantville; a daughter, Kay Barry, Sacramento, Calif.; two brothers, Garl Metcalf, Lutz, Fla., and Glenn Metcalf, New Port Richey, Fla.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and three nieces.

Services will be at 6 p.m. Monday in Parson Mortuary-Wheeling Chapel with Rev. Harold Fry officiating. Entombment will be in Gardens of Memory. Calling hours at the mortuary will be 4-5 p.m. Monday.
