He died unexpectedly Wednesday at the family residence. Mr. Ellison was born in Matthews and moved to Muncie in 1918 with his parents. He graduated from Muncie High School (now Central High School) in 1924, attended Ball State Teachers College (now Ball State University) and Jordan Conservatory of Music, Indianapolis. He also studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and while attending school there, played viola with the Cincinnati Symphony.
At one time he was head of the violin department of the Muncie Conservatory, a position he held for several years.
Mr. Ellison retired from Albany Tool and Die Co. Previously he was employed at Rebar Machine and Tool Co. and Danco Tool and Die Co., both of Muncie. In his early years, he was associated with his father and brother in Ellison's Grocery, 217 N. Jefferson, and later he and his wife, Helen, owned a grocery at 1517 S. Elm.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Bailey Ellison; a daughter, Kay Barry, Sacramento, Calif.; a son, James, Losantville; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Wendell Ellison, Anderson.
