Marie Augusta Sommerfeld was born October 25, 1867 in Klenzilber,Newmark,Brandenberg Germany, the daghter of Carl Sommerfeld and Friedericke Verg (Verch).
Marie immigrated to America in 1867 with two sisters, Lena, and (?), settling in Lake Mills, Jefferson County, Wisconsin.
On February 25, 1895, she married Ludwig Borck, of the Town of Shields, Dodge County, WI in the Town of Oakland, Jefferson County, WI.
Marie and Ludwig lived on the Borck family farm in Shields Township, raising their children; Albert(1895), Hattie(1896),Ester(1898), Friedrich(1899), Gertrude(1901), Ludwig(1902-1902), Frank(1904-1904),Ernest(1905),and Louis(1907).
Marie passed way September 20, 1934, of complications of diabetes. Her obituary from the Watertown Daily Times of Septeber 31, 1934 read;
'Funeral Rites for Mrs. Borck will be Monday -
Funeral services for Mrs.Ludwig Borck, route 4, Town of Watertown, whose death was announced yesterday afternoon, will be held Monday afternoon. There will be a service at the Nowack funeral home, at 1:30 o'clock, followed by services at 2:00 o'clock in St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, The Rev. Paul Lorenz officiating, burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Mrs. Borck died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Alfred Zimmerman. She was in failing health for a number of years. She was born in Neumark, Germany on October 25, 1867, her maiden name being Marie Sommerfeldt. She came to the United States with two sisters in 1893 and settled in Lake Mills. Later she lived in the Town of Shields where she made her home for 39 years. She was married in the Town of Oakland on February 25, 1895.
Her husband survives and there are three daughters and four sons, Mrs.Hattie (Alfred) Miller, Town of Emmet; Mrs.Ester(Alfred) Zimmerman, route 4; Mrs. Gertrude (Charles) Kelm, Town of Milford; Albert(Minnie),Fred(Edna),Ernst(Laura),and Louis(Irene), of the Town of Shields; two sons died in infancy, There are 16 grandchildren, and three sisters; Mrs. Lena (August) Arndt of Lake Mills; Mrs. Albert Albertson of Oaks, S.D.; and Amelia, who resides in Berlin, Germany.'
Marie was deeply missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.
