Leonard William Banks was born October 20, 1922 in Gray Hawk, KY. He went to be with the Lord on November 3, 2008. He was the son of the late Lewis & Lou (Smith) Banks.

He was a veteran of World War II.

He was the husband of Edna Wright Banks for 64 years. From this union was born six children- Wanda Cress and husband Johnny of Waynesburg, KY, Margaret Sue Nichols and husband John of Stanford, KY, Donna Long and husband Doug of Harrodsburg, KY, Linda Kilburn and husband Wendell of Tyner, KY, Sammy Banks and wife Connie of Tyner, KY, Pauline Faye Judd and husband Jimmy of Gray Hawk, KY and a special nephew whom he thought of as a son, Keith Moore and wife Shari of Wilmington, N.C.

In addition to his children he is also survived by three brothers and one sister, Gilbert Banks of Gray Hawk, KY, Andrew Banks of Hamilton, OH, Elmer Banks of Gray Hawk, KY and Dorothy Montgomery of Gray Hawk, KY. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and by a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters- Mark Chaney, Kayla Morris, Dee and Chester Banks, Dovie Robbins, Myrtle Lynch, Sarah McQueen and Gertrude Banks.

Leonard was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.

Funeral service was held 1:00 PM Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Farmer and Bill Lynch officiating. Burial followed in the Banks Cemetery in Gray Hawk. Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were grandsons- Terry Nichols, William, Lewis, Delbert & Jake Banks, Walker, William & Wesley Judd and Josh Moore. Honorary pallbearers were Denver Kelley, Ed Hicks, Hobert Hicks, Dee Neeley, Boyd Spivey, Delbert Wright & Walker Wright.
