SYLVESTER F. METZINGER
Sylvester F. "Metz" Metzinger, 75, St. Joseph, died Friday, Jan. 4, 1991, at a local health-care facility.
Born in Grant County, Okla., Mr. Metzinger had lived in St. Joseph for most of his life. He was employed by the Quaker Oats Company, retiring in 1977.
Mr. Metzinger was a World War II Army veteran and the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal. He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the American Legion Post No. 359.
His wife, Marcella Jean, died in 1990. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Herman; and four sisters, Etta Metzinger, Sister Mary Lucy Metzinger, Gertrude Frazee and Beatrice Brady.
Surviving: two sons, Donald D. of Independence, Mo., and Paul E. of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a daughter, Sylvia F. Hanson of St. Joseph; two brothers, John of Coffeyville, Kan., and Ralph of Ashland, Mo; two sisters, Mary Metzinger of St. Joseph, and Katie Holtsclaw of Easton, Mo.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Tuesday, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurlinger, Mo. Visitation: after 1 p.m. today. Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Rosary: 7 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
