Albert was a son of Sidney York Walker and Cora Lee McGee. He lived in Lenoir all his life and raised his 3 sons there. Two of his sons were professional baseball players and the Lenoir High School ball field was named in their honor. Albert and his wife worked in a cotton mill in Lenoir until they retired. He had 15 siblings in his family. In the 1920 census, Albert's father and 4 of his older siblings were working in the Lenoir cotton mill.
