William was born March 30,1836, in Cherry Valley, Ashtabula County, Ohio, son of Cheney Luce and Polly Darrow, both born in New York. He died December 31, 1911, at Oshkosh, Winnebago County, Wisconsin, aged 75 years, 9 months and 1 day, and was buried there in Riverside Cemetery.

On September 4, 1866, William was united in marriage to Emeline Damuth in a ceremony performed by Reverend William D. Amer, at the Methodist Episcopal Church, Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and witnessed by Jennie Root,Sheldon Damuth and Cynthia Damuth. At the time of their marriage, William was a resident of Stevens Point and Emeline was a resident of Koshkonong Township, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. She died October 21, 1933, at 98½ 11th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their children were: Daniel H., b. 26 Mar 1875; Henry H., b. 29 Nov 1877; & Benjamin F., b. 23 Oct 1884.

Pg 3,The condition of W.H.Luce is serious and the indications are he can live but a few hours. He was brought here from Milwaukee and is at the home of H.H. Luce on Nebraska Street.

Pg 19,Death of W.H. Luce aged Veteran of the Civil War,on Nebraska Street,at 11:45 o'clock Sunday morning. The remains were taken to Soper undertaking rooms and the funeral will be held from the residence of Mr. and Mrs. H. Damuth, 413 Wisconsin Ave, Wednesday, at 2:30 pm. Mr. Luce was seventy-five years of age. He was born Mar 30, 1836 in Cherry Valley, Ohio. He enlisted in the union army in 1861 and served throughout the war of the rebellion. The deceased was a member of Philip H. Sheridan post No.10, G.A.A. The interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Pg 27, G.A.R. The funeral of Our Late Comrade, W.H.Luce, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, at the Residence of H.D. Damuth, 413 Wisconsin Avenue.
