Joseph Zerbee Died Monday Lived Here 40 Years
Joseph Zerbee, a resident of this city for more than forty years died at his home, 1406 6th avenue, atr 11 o'clock on Monday evening, November 17.
He had been ill for some time but kept about and was bedfast only a short time before his death.
He was in his 79th year of age at the time of his death, having been born on March 10, 1852, near Pottsville, Pennsylvania. He was married to Catherine Vaughn at Marion, Iowa in 1874 and to them five children were born, three of whom, Don M., Katie A. and William Franklin Zerbee are deceased. The surviving are a daughter, Delilah Achenbach and son George E. Zerbee, both of Cedar Rapids.
He worked for the Northwestern RR, but has been retired for the past twelve years. Since then he has spent his time in truck gardening. He has lived in the same house during all of his residence here and after the death of his first wife lived alone.
He was again married to Rebecca Clements of West Branch, Iowa, in this city on March 22, 1916 and she preceded him in death several months ago.
The surviving relatives besides his children are a sister, Mrs. Angeline Zimmerman of this city, one sister living in Alburnetet and another sister living at Tipton, Iowa and a brother, Jacob Zerbe.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at one thirty o'clock at the Congregational church in charge of Rev. Vinton Lee.
The burial was in Oak Hill cemetery
