Albert Riggs was born in Philipstown (just east of Nelsonville), Putnam County, New York, the third child of Samuel Riggs and Elizabeth Haight. Albert married first on 19 Sept. 1839 to Hannah Knapp, but she evidently soon died. Albert then married Mary Elizabeth Pennoyer, daughter of Jacob and Martha (Scott) Pennoyer of Newburgh, Orange County, New York, on 8 Sept. 1840. Mary is buried with her husband in Godfrey Cemetery.
Albert's death certificate says he died at age 83 on 13 Jan. 1899, but his gravestone says 1898. The gravestone's error presumably resulted from a gravestone engraver's error of arithmetic, because 1815 plus 83 is 1898. But Albert's birthday was in December, so he was only about a month past his 83rd birthday when he died in Jan. 1899.
