"Rev. Issaiah Sprenkle, one of the best known Reformed Mennonite ministers in
Southern Pennsylvania, died in Waynesboro last Thursday age 76 years, 6
months and 22 days. He had been in failing health since last October. He was a
man of exceptionally strong character, great piety and a fervent preacher. He
was born in Adams county in 1835. His parents had moved into this county from
York county.
Rev. Sprenkle was reared on the farm of his parents in this county and
secured a good common school education. In 1854 he went to Franklin county to teach
school. Later he taught in Adams county and in 1860-1861 taught the male
school in Emmitsburg. In 1864 he removed to Franklin county to take up farming
and for 33 years successfuly followed this occupation until he retired and
moved to Waynesboro. He was ordained a minister in the Mennonite faith in 1884
and preached frequently in churches in Franklin and Lancaster counties and in
Baltimore. He is survived by eight daughters and three sons living in or near
Waynesboro. He is also survived by one brother and three sisters, among latter
Mrs Caroline Crenger of New Oxford."
