After her birth on 8 December 1894 in Iowa, Eva Jacobsen moved with her family in 1902 to Wadena Minnesota. When the Jacobsen family moved to their homestead near Plevna, Fallon Co., Montana in 1911, Eva went to high school for three years in Plevna and then taught school in Fallon County for three or four years. She taught the Rife school, in School District #1, and a school south of Baker.

Eva married her first husband, Elmer River, in about 1915 in Montana. In 1912, Elmer had homesteaded in Section 34, Township 8N, Range 57E in Fallon County to the southeast of Plevna. The couple proved the homestead on 12 December 1916.

They two children, William and Dorothy. Elmer died in 1922, shortly after the birth of Dorothy.

Eva married for the second time to Ray Elithorp in about 1924 in Iowa. They had one daughter, Muriel. Eva died on 15 Jan 1967 in the Los Angeles area.
