Obituary, The Columbia Daily Tribune, March 7, 2002:

Florence Elizabeth Lenz, 92, of Centralia died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Heritage Hall Nursing Center in Centralia.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Centralia with the Rev. J. James Offutt officiating. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Centralia. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Fenton Funeral Chapel in Centralia.

Mrs. Lenz was born Dec. 19, 1909, in St. Lawrence, S.D., to Bert and Kathryn McCabe Humphrey.

She married Ralph Elmer Lenz on July 23, 1930, in Waterloo, Iowa, and he preceded her in death.

She graduated from high school in St. Lawrence in 1926 and graduated from a business college in Iowa City, Iowa, in 1929.

She moved to Centralia in 1956 and worked in the physical education department at the University of Missouri-Columbia until her retirement.

She was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church and of the church's St. Ann's Ladies Sodality. She also was a member of the Prairie Queen Club, the Friendship Club, Oak Tours and the Centralia Historical Society.

Survivors include a daughter, Jean Mougin of Iowa City; five sons, Gerald Lenz of Louisiana, Mo., Larry Lenz of Colorado Springs, Colo., Tom Lenz of Louisburg, Kan., Terry Lenz of Centralia and Bill Lenz of Peculiar; two sisters, Ruth Wines of Ruby Valley, Nev., and Gertie Meade of North Liberty, Iowa; 24 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Lenz; a son, Ralph "Bud" Lenz; six brothers, Walter Humphrey, Jim Humphrey, Tom Humphrey, Bill Humphrey, Clem Humphrey and Frank Humphrey; and a sister, Grace Moore.

Memorials are suggested to the Right For Life Memorial Fund, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Centralia, Mo., 65240.
