Frank M. Anderson, one of the outstanding geologists of the Pacific Coast, an organizer of the Paleontology Department of the California Academy of Sciences, where he served as curator for several years, passed away yesterday morning at his home, 38 Hillcrest Road, at the age of 82 years. He has been in failing health for several months.
Mr. Anderson had been Chief Geologist for the General Petroleum Company and also been associated with the Standard Oil Company and had been on geological expeditions to South America. For a number of years he was employed in the Land Department of the Southern Pacific Company.
Mr. Anderson has made his home in Berkeley for the past 40 years and for a number of years had been retired. Born in Oregon, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Anderson, pioneers who crossed the plains. After attending Willamette University, Mr. Anderson came to California and graduated from Stanford University with the class of 1895 (1905?). He later was awarded his Master's degree from the University of California and his Ph.D. from Stanford. He was a member of the Sigma Xi Honor Fraternity.
Mr. Anderson was the author of a number of books. He was a Fellow at the Geological Society of America, and was a member of the Paleographical Society of America, and of the Cordilleran Section of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences. He has been a member of the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco and he was a member of the First Unitarian Church, this city. Surviving Mr. Anderson are his widow, Mrs. Theresa Anderson, two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Walton McIntire of Honolulu; Frances Marion Anderson; and Frank Barry Anderson of this city. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. George Loosley and Mrs. J.M. Wagner of Ashland, Oregon, and Mrs. Jenny R. Nickerson of San Francisco.

According to Mountain View Cemetery (Oakland, CA) records, Frank and Johanna Anderson are buried in Plot 13 Lot 83; however, unfortunately, there are no headstones at that location. (from a FAG contributor)
