Lester Layton Age 78 years, one month and four days, a resident of Anniston, passed away Monday May 24, 2010 at 8:46 p.m. at his daughter's residence in Sikeston. Born April 20, 1932 in Bell City, Missouri to the late Joe Ellis & Lillie Mae Robey Layton, Lester was a retired farmer and was of the Pentecostal Faith. On June 6, 1954 he married Shirley Irene Bridges who preceded in death on August 21, 1986. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lester Ellis & Edna Layton of Pekin, Illinois; one daughter, Cheryl Tucker Hadley of Sikeston; one sister, Nancy Johnson of Cottage Hills, Illinois; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and many friends. One granddaughter, Joy Beaudry; two great-grandchildren, Rikki Tucker & Billie Western; and his companion for several years, Greta McCants preceded Lester in death. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Shelby Chapel with Bro. Randy Eskew officiating. Burial will follow in the Anniston Cemetery with Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Rickie Tucker, David Tucker, Brice Western-Tucker, Joseph Western-Tucker, John Gifford, J.C. Layton and Mickey Tribbett-Layton.
