Daughter of Jefferson & Ann (Campell) Elliott

Obituary
Mrs. C. O. Houston, 88 years old, a former resident of Prairie Hill, died November 22 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. C. Stigall of Moberly, with whom she had made her home for the past year.
Mrs. Houston had been an arthritis victim for a number of years, but her last illness, of a three weeks' duration, was of a bronchial nature. Alta Elliott, the seventh child and last survivor of a family of twelve children, was born July 8, 1856 at Savannah. Her parents, Jefferson and Ann Campell Elliott were born and married in Tennessee.
In 1871, with her parents she moved to Chariton County, and on September 12, 1878 she was married to the late C. O. Houston. To this union seven children were born, five of whom survive: Mrs. E. G. McCrary of Los Angeles, Calif; Mrs. W. C. Stigall of Moberly; E. E. Houston of Kansas City; J. W. Houston and A. J. Houston of Moberly. She is also survived by one grandson, Albert J. Houston, Jr., Missouri,MM2, United States Navy, Port Hueneme, Calif. Her grandson visited her in July, after seeing overseas service for eighteen months. Mrs. Houston was his third grandparent to die in their eighty-eighth year.
A soul has gone to a well-deserved rest, one who, while in life played a stellar role as a daughter, a companion, a mother, a relative and a friend.
Funeral services were conducted at Prairie Hill at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Christian church by the Rev. M. G. Jacobs, of Moberly. Burial was in the family lot at Old Prairie Hill cemetery.
