Services for Warren G. McCrary were held 10:00 Thursday morning, July 7, 1994 at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jack Stringer officiating, assisted by Rev. Keith McCrary. Interment followed in Prairie Haven Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home, Inc. Military Honors were performed by the American Honor Guard of Hobbs.
Mr. McCrary died Monday afternoon, July 4, 1994. He was born September 19, 1921 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. He married Alice Oneri Carrol November 30, 1946 in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, where he served as commander for four years. He had served in the U. S. Army as a Technical Sgt. 5 overseas for six years. He drove the lead truck in the Battle of the Bulge for the Red Ball Express. He earned the American Theater Ribbon, the European African Ribbon, and a Victory Medal.
Mr. McCrary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Portales. He had worked as a general contractor for 30 years. He had also worked for the Sate of New Mexico as a building inspector for the past 13 years, retiring on May 31, 1994.
Left behind to cherish his memory are: his wife of 47 years, Oneri McCrary, three children: Dwight McCrary of Hobbs, Belinda McCrary Wink of San Diego, California and Gaylon McCrary of Irvin, Texas; two brothers: G. P. McCrary of Hobbs and Ralph McCrary of Littleton, Colorado, and grandchildren. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.
