Edith Elena Mitchell, 88, of Lee Avenue in Harrisonburg, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at the Bridgewater Home, where she had lived for the past two years.
Mrs. Mitchell was born Dec. 1, 1915, in Bergton, and was a daughter of the late David Perry and Mary Elizabeth Sonifrank Hottinger.
She was a member of the Muhlenberg Lutheran Church, the Sophie Moelle Circle and the Augsburg Bible Class. She retired as a maternity ward aide at Rockingham Memorial Hospital after 30 years of service.
On Feb. 24, 1956, she married Melvin Clay Mitchell, who preceded her in death Aug. 26, 1993.
She is survived by a brother, George Hottinger of Bergton; two sisters, Lelia Combs and Ressie Robinson, both of Harrisonburg, and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Joseph Vought will conduct the funeral 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Muhlenberg Lutheran Church.
Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
