Vena was born October 4, 1926 to Joseph and Myrtle Mary Gardiner Collier in Naples, Utah. She was the youngest of four children. Vena was raised in the Naples area and has lived there her entire life.

Vena attended school in the Naples and Vernal areas and graduated from Uintah High School in 1943. She was actively involved in numerous school organizations and graduated as an honor student.

Vena met the love of her life, Charles Arnold Baker. They were married June 10, 1953 In the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. Vena and Arnold were the parents of five children – Evan Lewis, Dean Arnold, Kay, Arlynn, and Brett Charles.

After graduation from high school, Vena began working for the Uintah State Bank (later First Security Bank and presently Wells Fargo Bank) as a bank teller. She worked for Uintah State Bank until her first child was born. Being a mother was her first priority, along with being a homemaker. She was a full-time mother taking care of her family and her mother who lived with her. In 1978, Vena began working for the Uintah County Library as a librarian and worked there until her retirement in 2004.

Vena was a life-long active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was baptized at the age of eight in the baptismal font in the old Uintah Stake Tabernacle. Vena began teaching Primary at the age of 14 and was actively involved in teaching at home and in church calling for the remainder of her life. She served in many church callings including Visiting Teacher, and as Relief Society, Sunday School, and Primary Teachers. She also served in the Young Women's and Primary Presidencies. One of the thrills of her life was teaching each of her grandchildren in Primary the year that they were baptized.Vena, along with her husband Arnold and children were called to serve an L.D.S. Stake Indian Mission to the Randlett Utah Indian Branch. They served for over three years traveling to Randlett each Sunday and during the week. Before Vena was married, she also served as a Stake missionary with Venna Goodrich. Vena and Arnold were later called to serve in the Vernal Utah L.D.S. Temple until 2006.

Vena enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, cooking, canning, jig- saw puzzles, crossword puzzles and going to movies or playing games with her children and grandchildren. She was also a 4-H leader for many years for her daughters, her youngest son and their friends.

Vena has been ‘a real trooper' throughout her life and right up to the very end! She will be greatly missed by her children, her grandchildren, her nephews and their families.
