Arlynn Baker, age 47, was received back into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 9, 2010 in Anaheim, Calif., after complications from surgery.

She was born Feb. 18, 1963 to Charles Arnold and Vena Collier Baker in Vernal, Utah.

Arlynn graduated from Uintah High School in 1981 and two weeks later entered the nursing program at Weber State University. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1983, and then continued her education, receiving a BSN. She was in the first class to receive a nursing bachelor's degree from Weber State. Arlynn worked for many years at McKay-Dee Hospital (Ogden, Utah) in the Step-Down Intensive Care Unit. She later moved into the McKay-Dee Home Health Care Program, where she enjoyed working with her many senior patients and making many lasting bonds. Later she returned to work at McKay-Dee.

Arlynn then worked as a nursing instructor, first for Ogden/Weber Applied Technology Center and later for Weber State University. Arlynn loved her opportunity to mentor tomorrow's nurses and was an excellent instructor. While teaching at Weber State, Arlynn enrolled in a master's program at the University of Utah and completed her master's degree, becoming a nurse practitioner, specializing in adult care. Arlynn worked as a nurse practitioner in Brigham City and for Weber State University. During this time, she also worked as a registered nurse at LDS Hospital. Arlynn also worked at a number of senior care facilities in the Ogden/Salt Lake City area. In 2005, Arlynn was recognized with an Annual Service Award from the McKay-Dee Hospital Center.

Arlynn had a thirst for knowledge and innate medical skills. She took every opportunity to hone her medical skills and knowledge. She read every medical newsletter or periodical she subscribed to and they were numerous. She had a special gift to diagnose medical conditions and was able to bless the lives of those she served and loved. She was an excellent nurse and an outstanding nurse practitioner.

Arlynn has lived in the Ogden area for the past 29 years and has felt that this was her home. Though she did love to return home to Naples, Utah and spend time with her family — especially her nieces and nephews. Arlynn loved her parents very much and was very willing to sacrifice herself and her time in order to take care of them in their times of need. Arlynn was there through her father's passing — providing love, compassion, care, and medical knowledge.

Having never married, Arlynn was like a big sister to her nieces and nephews and showed them a great time, camping, swimming, roller skating, movies, bowling, playing games, the annual Greek Festival and sleepovers (even when they were older). She was "always up for the next adventure."

Arlynn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed her many church callings including working with the Young Women, serving as Girl's Camp nurse, and teaching children in Primary. She loved attending Temple and impressed the importance of it upon her nieces and nephews. She had a "firm testimony" of her Heavenly Father's Eternal Plan and that ‘families can be sealed together forever." Arlynn was very loving, a caring, honest and hard worker, dedicated to family, friends and her patients, and exhibited integrity in all she did — she would not and did not compromise her standards.

Arlynn was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father, Charles Arnold Baker; and her nephew, Morgan Charles Baker. Arlynn is survived by her mother, Vena Collier Baker; her brothers, Evan and Holly, Dean and Jolene; and her sister Kay, all of Naples, Utah. She is also survived by her brother Brett of Canberra, Australia. Arlynn also is survived by six nephews, Levi Dean Baker (Ridgecrest, Calif.), Travis Tom and Marcie Baker (Elizabeth Town, Ky.), Brian Evan Baker (Grand Junction, Colo.), and Elder Jeffrey Lewis Baker (Jacksonville Florida Mission-Spanish speaking); and nieces, Megan Holly Baker (Drew McKay Long, soon-to-be nephew-in-law) and Rachel Rose Baker (both of Naples, Utah).

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010 in the Naples First Ward Chapel (Naples, Utah) at 2 p.m., with a viewing Friday night form 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to Services on Saturday. Arlynn will be interred in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
