Bernard Helms, 88, of Lamont Iowa, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, in the Edgewood Convalescent Center after a lengthy illness. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, by the Rev. Jack Paisley. Burial: St. Albert's Cemetery, rural Lamont. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Fawcett Funeral Home, Lamont, where there will be a Scripture service at 4 p.m. and rosary at 8 p.m.
Surviving are five daughters, Sharon (David) Kleppe and Shirley (Melvin) Tudor, both of Cedar Rapids, Kay (Lou) Kuhn of Beaver Dam, Wis., and Connie (Denny) Gaffney and Carol (Bob) Ealy, both of Lamont; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and five sisters, Della Rule, Lil Wessels and Frieda Dozark, all of Strawberry Point, Margaret Steele of Central City and Mildred Cree of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Della; a son, Ray; a grandson, Tim Tudor; and two brothers, Albert and George.
