Mr. Allen Edward "Al" Wiles, 74, of 8005 Admiralty Place, Frederick, died Friday, Sept. 22, at his home.
He was the husband of Edith C. Spangler Wiles. They had been married for 52 years.

Born Aug. 3, 1926, in Myersville, he was a son of the late Oscar C. Wiles and Onieda Ausherman Wiles Warfield.

Mr. Wiles was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Feagaville, for 25 years, had served on the church council and was a member of the men's Bible class.

He was employed as a carpenter for many years and retired from Giant Food in 1998. He was a longtime member of the carpenter's union.

Mr. Wiles was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Sharon Shaffer and husband Charles of Middletown; one son, Mark Wiles of Frederick; two grandchildren, Dawn Crummitt of Frederick, and Ernie Wiles of Thurmont; one great-granddaughter, Angela Crummitt of Frederick; two brothers, Paul O. Wiles and wife Barbara of Hansonville, and Bernard Warfield of Frederick; two sisters, Nadene Tinker and husband John of Harrison, Tenn., and Gloria Bohacek and husband Peter of Middletown; one aunt, Alice Ausherman Dennis of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Wiles was preceded in death by four brothers, Ernest Wiles, Earl Wiles, Richard Wiles, and Robert Warfield; and one sister, Helen Lenhart.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 5463 Jefferson Pike, Feagaville. Mr. Wiles' pastor, the Rev. John F. Bromhal, will officiate.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
