On June 10, 1740, at the age of 21, he married Sarah Cummings at Rehoboth, Massachusetts Colony. They created a life and family together which included at least eleven children: Mary, Ephraim, Sarah, David, Lucy, Thomas, Benjamin, infant son, Ruth, Abigail, and Tamer. The family, and sons specifically, would have been caught in the midst of the Revolutionary War.
By the end of their long lives, they were Americans. Sarah passed at 81 and Benjamin at 90. They had been married 63 years when Benjamin became a widower.
NOTER: The Joys died in Plainfield Township, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, as opposed to Plainfield, Sullivan County, New Hampshire.
