He was born November 3, 1927 at Swifton, the son of Dewitt Andrew and Ethel (King) Rowlett. "Alvis--his preferred spelling of Alvous, which was his name."
Mr. Rowlett was a former Deacon and Sunday school teacher at the New Home Baptist Church.
He was a United States Navy veteran, he farmed near Swifton from the time he was discharged from the Navy until his retirement.
He enjoyed growing vegetables and loved his grandchildren. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, and held a BSE from Arkansas State University. His grandfather, A.J. Rowlett, was the founder of the 1st Sunday in May tradition in the Pleasant Valley (Possum Trot) community, with church, lunch on the grounds, and singing. It is a 115 year tradition he proudly kept going throughout his life, including building a new church house on the family homesite.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Joan Thompson and Angela Davis; four brothers, Jack, Andrew, August, and Thurman; five sisters, Mable, Lola, Esther, Agnes, and Geneva "Nicky"; and his parents.
Mr. Rowlett is survived by his wife, Virginia (Stewart) Rowlett; three sons, Gary Rowlett of Little Rock, Stanley Rowlett and wife, Mary of Jonesboro, and Warren Rowlett, Jr. of Swifton; two daughters, Linda Casteel and husband D.B. of Cabot and Beverly Rowlett of Little Rock; thirteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grand-children.
Funeral services were held at the Tuckerman Free Will Baptist Church with interment in Haines Cemetery.
