August Rowlett, 92, of Swifton, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999 at Cave City. He was the son of the late Dewitt Augustus and Ethel (King) Rowlett. [Author's note: This should be Dewitt Andrew Rowlett) He was a retired self-employed farmer, a teacher, merchant, banker, and ginner. He was a member and one of the original founders of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Tuckerman. He is survived by three sons, Austin Rowlett of Sulphur Rock, Rayburn Rowlett of Sedro Woolley, Wash. and Homer Rowlett of Zephyrhills, Fla.; two brothers, Jack Rowlett of Florida and Warren Rowlett of Swifton; four sistesrs, Mabel Hubbard of Tuckerman, Lola Lovelace and Esther Erickson, both of Jonesboro and Agnes Montgomery of Chaffee, MO; eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
Mr. Rowlett was preceded in death by his wife, Ludie Leona (Tucker) Rowlett, his second wife, Jewell (Bowden) Eldridge Rowlett; two sons, Donald and Neal Rowlett; a daughter, Carmelita Rowlett; two brothers Andrew and Thurlow [should be Thurman] Rowlett and one sister, Geneva "Nicky" Zumstein.
Funeral service was as 2 p.m. Monday at Tuckerman First Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. David Winfrey officiating. Interment was in Swifton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Warren Rowlett, Jr., Chris Rowlett, Jeff Rowlett, D.C. Rowlett, Tim Rowlett and Bob Norris. Arrangements by Jackson's Newport Funeral Home.
