Daughter of William and Bethia (Owens) Simerell. According to the Gardiner-Gardner Genealogy Book she was born in 1776 somewhere in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, but there's other evidence that suggests she might have actually been born in Ulster County, New York- as that is where her father's Revolutionary War enlistment lists as his residence. She married Jesse Gardner, a Connecticut transplant about 1795. They had eleven children. The family resided in Providence Township, Luzerne, (now Lackawanna county), Pennsylvania and moved to Greenfield Township, Luzerne (now Lackawanna), Pennsylvania sometime between 1810 and 1820. In 1847, seven years after Jesse's death, Christianna married Benjamin Gardner, his brother. Christianna died 26 Feburary 1859 in Greenfield at the age of 83.
