Jane was a daughter of William Burns, who was born in Scotland and removed to County Down, Ireland, eventually taking up his residence in Canada, when his daughter was a year old. She has reported she was born "near Scotland". Before she died she revealed that she'd been born on the Atlantic Ocean en route to Canada. She and Joseph married in Canada; the mother of twelve children, ten of whom attained maturity. Eventually, they moved to Lanesboro, Minnesota. After her husband Joseph died, she moved to Clear Lake, IA; living with her children. The Greer's are buried in a plot with their two daughters Elizabeth and husband James Price and Theresa and husband William Price as well as Rebecca Price, mother of the two sons in law. The inscription reads: "Happy soul thy days are ended, all thy mourning days below. Go by angel bands attended to the sight of Jesus - go."
From her obit: Mrs. Greer came to Clear Lake in 1877, and at her death was 81 years of age. She possessed a beautiful Christian character and will ever be remembered as one of the most interested and faithful members of the M.E. Church.
