In November 1938 Joseph was part of the Hemmingford Volunteers, 2nd Company. Eventually, they moved to Lanesboro, Filmore Co., MN. He was 70 years old when he died in Clear Lake, IA while visiting his daughter. Stone reads: "Happy soul thy days are ended, all they mourning days below. Go by angel bands attended to the sight of Jesus, go." Father of twelve.
