Honorable Robert H. Greer is listed in PORTRAIT AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD OF FAMOUS OREGONIANS on page 446.
He was one of the foremost Canadian-Americans of his locality. He incorporated and ran from 1889 - 1926 Headquarters for Groceries in Hillsboro. He was a man of high business prestige and of pronounced business judgment.
He was born in Franklin, Huntingdon County, Canada, August 10, 1856, a son of Joseph and Jane (Burns) Greer, natives respectively of the North of Ireland and County Down, near Bainbridge, Ireland.
The family is of Scotch ancestry, the paternal grandfather having gone from Scotland to County Armagh, where he farmed, but eventually removed to the vicinity of Sherrington, Canada, where his death occurred.
Mr. Greer was educated in the public schools of Canada. After immigrating to Oregon, he married M. Hannah Goodin in 1881 who gave birth to one daughter and passed in 1885. He married Sarah May Hiatt 23 Jan 1887. They had three boys and one daughter. They raised their grandson as well.
Mr. Greer was Oregon State Representative 1909 – 1910 and a Hillsboro City Councilman for two years. He was Superintendent of the Poultry Division and School Director for 13 years - president during part. He was a member of the Methodist-Episcopal Church in which he is a trustee and toward the support of which he was a liberal contributor, serving on the board for a number of years.
In 1931 he secured and circulated a petition for paving Lincoln Street from Third to Fifth Avenues and laying of sidewalks in Hillsboro.
On 2/13/1930 he was presented with the highest I.O.O.F. tribute: The 50-year jewel. He was past chancellor and past grand-master-at-arms of the Grand Lodge. The I.O.O.F. Hillsboro Lodge (Montezuma Lodge No. 50) is one of the oldest in the West.
