He was born on 11 Jun 1892 in Somer Township, Champaign County, Illinois on his family farm. His parents were Andrew Heimburger and Katherine Marie Ziegler. He had 9 siblings, however only 5 survived (Minnie (Heerdt), Mary (Grierson), Christine (Hampel), Lydia (Reifsteck), Sadie (Reifsteck). Four siblings died as children (George, Laura, Sarah, and Kathryn).

According to draft registration records he was 5'10" and weighed around 155 lbs. He had hazel eyes and brown hair. He was a member of the St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Champaign, Illinois

In his early years he lived on the family farm in Somer Township, just north of Champaign near Leverett, Illinois. According to 1893 land records, their family had over 230 acres of land near his Uncle Jacob and his family. By 1913, the family had expanded to about 270 acres and kept the land intact until they gave/sold about 40 acres to Andrew. He lived with his parents until he married Rose in 1914. At that time they moved to their own land they acquired from his father. He lived there until his death in 1949. He was a farmer his entire life.

Andrew John Heimburger and Rose Reifsteck married on 14 Oct 1914 in Champaign County, Illinois. They had 2 children (Harold & Roy).

He passed away suddenly at the age of 56 of a heart attack at his home at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, 17 May 1949. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, 20 May 1949 at St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Champaign, Illinois. The Rev. E.H. Busekros presided over the services. He was buried in Section 7 of Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana, Illinois.
