She was born on 27 May 1878 in Somer Township, Champaign County, Illinois. Her parents were Andrew Heimburger and Katherine Marie Ziegler. She had 9 siblings, however only 5 survived (Minnie (Heerdt), Christine (Hampel), Lydia (Reifsteck), Andrew, Sadie (Reifsteck), 4 siblings died as children (George, Laura, Sarah, and Kathryn).

She was a faithful member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Champaign. She was also a member of the German Ladies Aid, the Triumph Rebekkah Lodge 410, IOOF Ladies Auxiliary of Encampment, the Ladies Auxiliary Patriarchs Militant and a charter member of the Somers Home Bureau.

In her early years she lived on the Heimburger family farm in Somer Township, just north of Champaign near Leverett, Illinois. According to 1893 land records, their family had over 230 acres of land near her Uncle Jacob and his family. She lived with her parents until she married Charles in 1896. At that time they moved to another farm located close to her parents and by 1910, they owned their own Dairy Farm. After her husband's death in 1927, she stayed on the family farm with her children. At some point she moved in with her Daughter Katherine and her family. She lived there until her death in 1958.

Charles Grierson and Mary married on 3 Dec 1896 in rural Champaign County, Illinois. They had 6 Children (Clifford, Andrew, Lyle, Katherine (Squire), Charles, Leslie).

She passed away at the age of 80 at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 23 Dec 1958 at her daughter Katherine's home. She had been battling an illness for several months. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 24 Dec 1958 in St. Peter's United Church of Christ. The Rev. Walter Noffke presided over the services. She was buried in Section 6 of Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana, Illinois.
