GLADYS STREET
Gladys White Street, 75, daughter of Guy C. and Cora Baker White, was born Feb. 28, 1926 near Newbern, Lucas County, Iowa. She passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton.
Gladys was united in marriage to Roland Kipper (Kay) Street in 1945 in Princeton, Mo. She is survived by two daughters, Jackie (Kenny) Sinnott of Melrose, Iowa and Jeanie (Gary) Head of Aurora, Mo.; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marlene White; brother-in-law, Maynard (LaVerne) Street; sister-in-law Banetah Street-VanAntwerp; sister-in-law, Arlene Street; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kay, in 2000; her parents; sister, Nadene Hatfield, brother, Guy Junior White, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Hatfield.
At a young age Gladys moved from Newbern to Chariton where she graduated from high school. She was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Chariton when she was a young person.
Following her marriage, Gladys and Kay lived in Cambria, where their first daughter was born. They moved to Humeston in 1947, where her second daughter was born. Gladys worked in Linton's Clothing Store. Her enjoyment of meeting and visiting with people led her to become a Tupperware dealer and eventually a manager. Many people knew her as the "Tupperware Lady." She was Classic Parties District dealer of the year.
Gladys enjoyed canning the vegetables Kay grew in his garden and delighted to share her outstanding kitchen artistry with family and friends. Gladys was a Junior Legion Auxiliary leader for many years. She was also a 4-H leader. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Humeston. Gladys was a loving wife and devoted mother, grandmother and aunt.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002 at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton with the Rev. Joan White officiating. Gilbert Garton was soloist for the service. Burial was in the Humeston Cemetery.
