WESTERNPORT,MARYLAND -- Mary Margaret Chaney, 81, formerly of Hammond Street and Grandview Apts., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 at Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing, where she had been a resident for the past four months.

Born Sept. 8, 1929 in Barton, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Isabell (Davis) Lashbaugh. Her husband in 1984, Raymond Chaney, two sisters, Kathleen Timney and Lillian "Wid" Poland, and a brother, Howard "Bud" Lashbaugh, also preceded her in death.

Mary Margaret was 1947 graduate of Barton High School. She was formerly employed at Romig's Pharmacy, Piedmont, W.Va. and Revco Pharmacy, Tri-Towns Plaza. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Westernport, a member of Victory Unit 155 Ladies Auxiliary and Queens Point V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.

She leaves behind a son, Mitchell Chaney of Boca Raton, Fla.; a daughter, Alexa Fazenbaker and husband John of Westernport; a sister, Jean Czarnecki of Lakeside, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Lashbaugh of Lonaconing; and three grandchildren who were the loves of her life, Job Fazenbaker of Westernport, Rae Michelle Fazenbaker of Uniontown, Pa. and Caleb Fazenbaker of Westernport.

At Mary Margaret's request, her body was cremated.

The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011 from 6 to 9 p.m.

A memorial service will be conducted at St. James Episcopal Church on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Garrett Carskadon and the Rev. Tom Hudson officiating.

Inurnment will be at Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Westernport Elementary School Library, Church St., Westernport, or the Georges Creek Elementary School Library, Lower Georges Creek Road, Lonaconing.

The family would like to thank the staff of Egle Nursing Home for the professional and excellent care she received while a resident there. They would also like to thank Dr. Robert Bess and his staff for the years of dedicated care that was given to Mary Margaret. He was always there for her and her family.
