"Jacob Goodbub, and old and greatly esteemed citizen of New Albany, one of the pioneer business men of that city, died yesterday morning shortly before 1 o'clock at his home, 219 Pearl street, of paralysis after an illness of nearly two years. He was stricken in January, 1907, and although he recovered partially from the first attack, other strokes were sustained and for months he had been confined to his home.

He was born in Alsace, Germany, seventy-four years ago, and is survived by his wife and two sons, George F. Goodbub and William J. Goodbub; two granddaughters, Mrs. William H. Newhouse and Miss Elsa Goodbub. He came to this country when quite a young man and settled in New Albany, where he was married fifty-three years ago. Shortly after the pair went to Bloomington, Ind., where Mr. Goodbub engaged in business as a confectioner and baker.

This was the beginning of a business, that successfully managed, bought to them a large fortune. Returning to New Albany, he continued in the same business, retiring only a few years ago. He was one of the leading stockholders of the Second National Bank of New Albany and for more than twenty years was a member of the board of directors, retiring only on account of ill health.

Mr. Goodbub was a member of the German Evangelical church of that city, being the oldest communicant in the church. He was also a member of Hope Lodge No. 83, I. O. O. F., and Ruth Lodge, Daughters of Rebeckah. The funeral will take place at the home of his son, William J. Goodbub, 321 Bank street, under the direction of Hope Lodge of Odd Fellows. The religious services will be conducted by the Rev. E. G. Kuenzler, pastor of the German Evangelical church, and the burial will be in Fairview cemetery."
