Although this obituary is for Matthew's father, it shows that Matthew died in October, 1852 and that Rev. W. M. Pitts preached his funeral at the Blackwater Church in Johnson County. It says that Rev. Edmond Wagoner preached his son's funeral at the same time. Both Rev. Pitts and his son are buried in the Blackwater Cemetery.

WAGONER - Rev. Edmond was born in Bedford Co., Va. 17 Oct. 1794. He emigrated with his parents to Ky in the year 1805, and in 1813 he was married to Miss Charlotte Wilson..In 1820 he was licensed to preach and continued to for near 50 yrs. He was ordained deacon by Bishop McKendree, and elder by Bishop E. S. Janes. In the year of 1850 he came to Mo. and settled in Lafayette Co. In the fall of 1852, in the month of October, at old Blackwater Church, in Johnson Co., Mo., Bro Wagoner preached the funeral of my oldest son, and I preached the funeral of his oldest son.* Such a thing may take place again but not likely"..He died 12 Jan 1876 and his funeral was preached at McKendree Chapel. He left an aged wife to whom he was married in 1813, also 7 children.
