Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 25, at the Church of Seven Dolors in Millerville for Mrs. Josephine Turchin. Rev. Adolph Schmidt officiated. Rosary services were held Sunday evening at the Peter Bitzan residence in Millerville. Pallbearers were Bernard Bitzan, Cornelius Kramer, Clinton Foslien, Frank Baumhofer, John Baumhofer and Richard Bitzan. Crossbearer was John Dorsch. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Josephine Turchin, former resident of the Millerville and Leaf Mountain communities, passed away at the home of her son, Clement Turchin, in Alexandria Friday morning, Sept. 22, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 26 days.
Mrs. Turchin was born March 26, 1876, at Shokopee, Minn., the daughter of Frank and Louise Baumhofer. When she was eight years old the family moved to Lund township, Douglas county. On Nov. 6, 1894, she was united in marriage to John Turchin. Mr. and Mrs. Turchin farmed in Leaf Mountain township near Millerville until Mr. Turchin's death on Aug. 10, 1949.
Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Turchin, two passing away in infancy. Surviving are: Nick Turchin of Brandon; (Rose), Mrs. Peter Bitzan of Millerville; Frank Turchin of Millerville; (Louise), Mrs. Gerald Wolff of Minto, N.D.; Martin Turchin of Millerville; John A. Turchin of Millerville; (Agnes), Mrs. Steve Dorsch of Millerville, and Clement Turchin of Alexandria. Also surviving are one sister, Julia Pauly, of Bellingham, Wash., and one brother, Matt Baumhofer, of Bellingham, Wash., and 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
