C.A. Tarwater, pioneer of this county, died at the Martinez Hospital Monday evening at eight o'clock following an operation for appendicitis. Tarwater was enjoying his vacation with his wife and two daughters at Pt. Arena, Mendocino county, when he was suddenly stricken. He was brought to the hospital here on Thursday and an operation was performed and for a time he seemed to rally. Sunday evening he suffered with sinking spells and passed on Monday.
Tarwater was born in Clayton in 1866 being fifty eight years old at the time of his death. He married Miss Eva Wells, sister of County Clerk, J.H. Wells, and Deputy County Clerk Sam Wells of Martinez, Oct 16 1900. He was a prominent member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and was widely known as a rancher, living in the Ygnacio Valley up to the time of his death. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Eva Tarwater, and two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Gaster of Madera and Miss Bernice Tarwater.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon in Concord from the Guy, Palmer & Ford Funeral Parlors. Rev. Kelsey of the Christian Church, Concord, will conduct the service and the I.O.O.F lodge will have charge of the service at the cemetery.
