Ira J. Bassett, 82, pioneer of Silver City, where he had resided for 45 years, past away last Friday at Hillcrest General Hospital. He had been in ill health for the past two years. Until his retirement from business some years ago, Mr. Bassett was associated with his two brothers, Harry Bassett and C.C. Bassett and sister, Miss Mary Bassett, in the operation of the Ford Motor Co. Dealership in Silver City, Santa Rita and Deming, for many years one of the largest automotive agencies in the Southwestern New Mexico. Also, over a period of years, Mr. Bassett was a director of the American National Bank. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Bassett; a son, Ira J. Bassett Jr., Silver City; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Walden of Biloxi Miss.; Two sisters, Miss Mary Bassett and Mrs. Gertrude Warrick, Silver City, and a brother, Harry Bassett, Dallas Tx. Private funeral services were held Saturday, at 4 PM at the Curtis Mortuary Chapel, the Rev. Kenneth Ford, pastor of the First Methodist Church, Conducting the rites. Internment was in the Silver City Cemetery Mausoleum.
