Abner was the youngest child born to William and Lettice Cornelius. He married Susan McPherson about 1824. Ten known children were born to this couple: Lettie, McPherson, William Marion, Susan, Elizabeth, Cincnnati, Abner Jr, Sinsana, Barton, and Thomas Britton.
