"LONG TIME RESIDENT OF COUNTY PASSES SUNDAY
Ben Willard, a long time resident of the Lake Chapel community, and well known farmer of the County, died at his home Sunday evening. Burial was in the Lake Chapel cemetery Monday afternoon under the direction of the Burleson Funeral Home following religious services by Rev. H. L. McKissack, assisted by Rev. Frank McElroy.
Mr. Willard was born in Tennessee in 1857, moving to Freestone County with his parents when 12 years old, and spent the rest of his life in the neighborhood where he died. He was a substantial citizen and a successful farmer. Near surviving relatives are his wife and nine children: Kirk Willard of Palestine, Mrs. T. R. Bonner of Fairfield, Vernon Willard of Ward Prairie, Mrs. Paul Bonner of Stewards Mill, Colon Willard of Fairfield, Tommie Willard of Lake Chapel, Mrs. Leon Childs of Houston, Mrs. Mattie Ritter of Lake Chapel and Joe Willard of Houston; thirty-one grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Moore of Lake Chapel and Mrs. John Seale of Groesbeck."
