SHREVEPORT, LA - Peter Joseph Cascio danced his way into heaven on July 19, 2011, in Santa Fe, NM. He was born above his parents' grocery store in West End in the Italian part of Shreveport, Louisiana on February 27, 1923. As one of the "Greatest Generation," he fibbed about his age to join the U.S. Army in WWll. He was assigned to the U.S. Army Signal Corps and set up radio stations across North Africa. Peter had the time of his life during the war. He flew across the Atlantic in the belly of a B-24 Liberator, hunted gazelle in the Atlas Mountains, roamed the Casbah in Casablanca, wandered among the Nubian pyramids in Sudan and enjoyed Frank Sinatra and the Andrews Sisters at the Paramount theater in New York City. After the war he worked at Barksdale Air Force Base as an electronics technician for over forty years. When he wasn't enjoying his passion in life by sitting in a boat on Toledo Bend drowning worms, he was doing things like bowling, playing softball and being a scoutmaster at Troop 86. In 1999, he moved to Santa Fe, NM where he lived and captured the hearts of ladies young and old. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosario and Concetta Marzullo Cascio and older brothers, Sammy Cascio and Albert Cascio. Also preceding him is his ex-wife, June Clayton Cascio, the "only woman (he) ever loved". June's son from another marriage, Frank Ruscitto, whom he considered a son, passed away last year. He is survived by his son, Gary Cascio and wife Renee of Santa Fe, NM; his daughter Laura Gresham and husband Ken of Atlanta, GA; his brothers George Cascio, Anthony Cascio and wife Martha, Angelo Cascio, Johnnie Cascio, all of Shreveport LA, his sisters Rosina Cascio and Camille Matassa of Shreveport, LA; Connie Aston of Nacogdoches, TX and Mary Jane O'Brien and husband Donald of Belle Plaine MN. He was blessed with grandchildren Allison Nicole Gresham Estabrook, Ashley Claire Gresham Flanagan and Dylan Peyton Joseph Cascio. He was also blessed by his great-grandchildren, Elijah Alan Estabrook, Grayson Chandler Flanagan and Caden Alan Flanagan.Visitation will be at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Marshall Street in Shreveport, LA from 5-8 pm with a vigil at 7 pm, July 22, 2011. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Charles Glorioso and assisted by Father Richard Lombard at St. John's Cathedral on Jordan Street in Shreveport, LA, at 1 pm July 23, 2011. Pallbearers will be his son Gary Cascio, his daughter Laura Gresham, his grandson Dylan Peyton Joseph Cascio, his son-in-law, Ken Gresham, his nephew Michael Cascio, his godson Roy Charles Cascio, his brother George Cascio and his brother Anthony Cascio.
